Ayurvastra manufactures eco friendly organic attires

Ayurvastra, one of the ancient Ayurveda branch has developed an innovative method of producing 'organic eco friendly' fabrics using medicinal herbs and plants. Ayurvastra practices the ancient 5,000 year old Indian system of Vedic healthcare, Ayurveda. It is headquartered near Washington, D.C. and works in Kerala as well.

Ayurvastra dyeing is an unique dyeing method using medicinal plants and herbs and 100% organic.

Founder of Ayurvastra, Sri Narayan was born and raised in Kerala. Narayan has a master's degree in science from Arizona State University and has been certified by the Institute of Integrative Nutrition at Columbia University. Also a certified health coach and was trained in food therapy at the Natural Gourmet Institute for Health and Culinary Arts in New York City. He is confident about selling the fabric to larger clients, who will use it to fashion everything from baby clothes to bedding as told to India-West.

Narayan spoke about Ayurvastra as the only producers of clothing using this traditional wisdom.

Ayurvastra aims at manufacturing 100 percent organic and chemical free fabrics and attires. By doing this Ayurvastra protects the planet's natural resources from the clutches of harmful toxic chemical wastes used in the production of agriculture and textiles. It also aims at reviving the ancient Ayurvedic dyeing technology in its fabrics.

The term Ayurvastra has a significant meaning; 'Ayur' refers to health and 'Vastra' refers to attire.

This initiation by Ayurvastra project was launched by the Directorate of Handloom, Department of Industries and Commerce and the Department of Government Ayurveda College. Apart from the production of eco friendly clothes by using natural herbs and plants, Ayurvastra also infuses Ayurvedic medicinal solutions.

The medicinal herbs include turmeric, tulsi, neem, khus-khus (vetiver), sandalwood and indigo. Further all these herbs are blended with balancing herbs to make delicate colours that remain everlastingly in the fibers. Ayurvastra dyeing is applied on all natural fibers like cotton, silk, linen, wool, coir, hemp, neetle, bamboo to make eco friendly textiles.

Each herb caters a different medicinal property. Likewise a fabric with the properties of tulsi helps fight against allergies and toxins and turmeric, which has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties protects against skin infections.

This innovative project inspired Sujeev who heads a half century old Handloom Textile firm in Balaramapuram to team up organic cotton producers, Ayurvedic dyeing units, handloom weavers community and Garment units to assist Ayurvastra produce organic fabrics.

In order to produce Ayurvastra fabrics, the cloth is instilled into a specially prepared Ayurvedic Kasayam containing more than 30 herbs. The herbal properties from these fabrics are then released on the body by preventing various infections and diseases.

Ayuvastra fabrics were also experimented on patients suffering from diseases like eczema, psoriasis and rheumatism which showed a progress in them.
