Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple Treasure - Kerala Temples of Gloom

By Rakesh Krishnan Simha

The glitter from the over Rs 100,000 crore treasure trove discovered in a 9th century Kerala temple should not blind us to secular India’s systematic stripping of temple assets for the exclusive benefit of non-Hindus. Behind every great fortune there is a story of intrigue.

The discovery of a treasure trove valued at billions of rupees – and counting – in vaults deep inside the 9th century Padmanabhaswamy temple in Trivandrum, Kerala, will not come as a surprise to most Indians. Hindu temples, at least the iconic ones, have traditionally been great storehouses of public wealth.

The treasure should continue to belong to the Temple and not become State Government property.
This discovery throws up a larger issue. Why must the Central and State Govts exercise control and be involved in Managing Hindu Temples. In Karnataka donations become part of the State Treasurery and a small % is used for temple upkeep. Ditto for other South Indian states and Tirupati Temple.

63 years after Independence cannot the Hindus of India be allowed to manage their Temples without Government interference and use the Wealth for the benefit of the community. If other Indians can have this right so can the Hindu community.
