Grand start for Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2019

The 15th edition of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD 2019) has been kicked off in grand style at Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. The theme for PBD 2019 is "Role of Indian Diaspora in building New India".

The opening day marked the Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas with a focus on the generation next especially from Uttar Pradesh.

Addressing diaspora, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that he has tried a lot to change in the investment scenario. He also urged all NRIs to invest in the land of their forefathers.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs Rajyawardhan Singh Rathore, Member of Parliament from New Zealand Kanwal Jeet Singh Bakshi, MP from Norway Himanshu Gulati and Minister of state for external affairs General VK Singh (Retired) attended the event. 


On 22nd January, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the PBD 2019. The Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Jugnath will be the Chief Guest on the occasion.


The valedictory address and Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards will be conferred by the President Ram Nath Kovind on the 23rd Januray to selected NRI entrepreneurs, PIOs, organisation or institution established and run by the NRIs who have made significant contribution to various fields both in India and abroad.


Several world leaders of Indian origin are expected to attend PBD 2019. This time, the participants will also have the opportunity to participate in Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj and Republic Day celebrations at New Delhi.
