Indepedence day celebration at our college

Students and staff of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham celebrated the nation’s 60th Independence day, in front of the main building of the University. Dr.S.Krishnamoorthy, Dean, Administration, hoisted the flag and addressed the students.

While delivering his speech, Dr. Krishnamoorthy highlighted the role of teachers and parents in moulding the character of a student. He also urged the student community to develop a positive attitude in their life.

“Now a days we are losing the cultural values. Each student has the onus to retain it”, he added. Before concluding his speech, Dean pointed that only through love we can restore cultural values.

The whole campus was gearing up for the event, a week in advance, with programme ‘Operation Swaraj’ : which included the screening of the patriotic film ‘Border’ directed by J.P.Dutta, , a speech by Brigadier N.L. Narayanan and a sports tournament for the students of Amrita School of Engineering.

The film Border is true to life and depicts the soldier’s life in times of war. The film mainly dealt with the condition of the soldiers in the border area and how they were forced to indulge in a war with the Pakistan army.

The film was brought into perspective by the experiences of Brigadier Narayanan in Siachen and during the Indo-Pak war in 1971. Speaking on “Freedom-What it means to me” at E-Learning Lecture Hall on 10th of this month, he shared anecdotes about his life as a soldier near the Indian borders.

The sports tournament included competitions like Carroms, Badminton, Chess and Table Tennis conducted by Physical Education Department.
