Amma's 54th birthday celebration report
On 27th September, Amritapuri, Vallikavu became a confluence of lakhs of people for one reason- it was, to celebrate their Amma’s 54th birthday. In her b’day message Amma said that the advancement of the world is solely based on one thing-Love.one should be compassionate towards one’s fellow being, which ultimately helps us to understand other human beings.
“I have no eyes and I see it through my children’s eyes,”said Amma. She also emphasized the need to help the poor and downridden, and work for the upliftment of the needy people. She pointed out that most of us spend time with holding mobile phones to our ears and remain glued to the screen. As such we have no time to spend with our dear and near ones.
The foundation for happiness is love. Only such happiness is true happiness. Without love and happiness, everything else is pointless. For one to really enjoy life these two fact ors are utterly essential. Real happiness is spirituality.
The programme was held at Amrita Engineering Campus, which was for the first time in the history of ashram. The celebrations were began with Mahaganapathi Homam.Then Amrita Swaoopanadapuri delivered Satsang and conducted ‘Guru Pada Pooja’.
Union Minister of State for Planning M.V Rajasekharan inaugurated the Vidyamatram project to provide monthly scholarship to 30,000 children of impoverished agranian parents from Kerala, Amdhrapradesh, Tamilnadu, Karnataka and Maharashtra
Paravoor Sridharan thantri was presented the Amrita Keerthy Puraskar by minister and Amma jointly. The award carried a cash prize of 1, 23,456, a citation and a memento designed by Artist Namboodri.
A project to provide initial capital for women self-help groups for starting small business ventures was launched by Fisheries Minister S Sarma.As the project 5,000 women self-groups would be given vocational training and initial capital. Mass wedding of couples from poor families was also held. It was followed by Amma’s darshan.
From food arrangements to crowd control and other services, around 2500 volunteers were actively present.AIMS, Kochi campus provided Mobile Ambulance Tele-Medicine Unit (Centre for Digital Health) in case of an emergency. It’s a joint venture of Direct Relief International, a world wide health organization and ISRO.They also did the background setting of the event.
President Prathiba Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Defence Minister A.K Antony, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi sent birthday greetings to Amma.
BharatiyaVichara Kendram director P.Parameswaran, BJP leader O.Rajagopal, poets P. Narayan Kurup and Sreekumaran Thampi were also present at the function.
