Tierra Food on expansion mode
Apart from setting up world-class manufacturing unit, the company will launch 8 new products in current fiscal.
The Kochi-based Tierra Food India Private Limited will build a top-notch manufacturing unit with an investment of Rs 7 crore at Kinfra Park, Adoor, as part of expansion plan, announced Alex Thomas, Managing Director, Tierra Food India.
“The company will set up a production unit and launch 8 new products by the end of current financial year. It includes snacks such as Boondi, Green Beans, Moong Dal and variety of peanuts,” he said.
The company which owns premium snack food brands such as Kappo and Banano had registered Rs 6 crore turnover last year.
“We expect a business of Rs 15 crore in this year. Kappo and Banano are now available in over 30,000 outlets in Kerala. Owing to the tremendous response from market, we had launched these products in select cities in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka in May,” he said.
He pointed out that the branded snacks market in Kerala is estimated at Rs 15 crore in a month, while it is Rs 50 crore in South India.
Tierra has been working closely with farmers and research organisations like the Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (CTCRI) and the Kerala Agricultural University to develop new products.

Tierra was founded by Mr. Alex Thomas, a farmer turned entrepreneur, in 2011 to process the agricultural crops grown in Kerala into food products and market them across the globe. Kochouseph Chittilappilly, Founder and Chairman of V-Guard Industries Ltd and C J George, Managing Director of Geojit BNP Paribas are the other promoters.
