Now freight gets E-turn

New Delhi, Oct 29 : After e-ticketing, the Indian Railways are all set to introduce electronic payment system for the freight sector.E-payment of freight has already been implemented in the coal sector in East Coast Railways, particularly coal booked for Badarpur powerhouse, said V N Mathur, Member Traffic, Railway Board while speaking at a seminar on "Rediscovering Railways Through Information and Communication Technology" here today.Freight operations and passenger reservation are other areas where there is a need for extensive use of IT to maximise the utilisation of coaches, wagons and locomotives, he added.
