4 Sourav Ganguly - The Prince of Kolkata
The Prince of Kolkata : Sourav Ganguly
Team India is hogging the limelight not only in Media but also in people's heart after thrashing the mighty Australians in recently concluded Tests. But, we, forgot to remember one 'leader' or 'captain' at this time. It was none other than Sourav Ganguly.
Sourav- The Bengal Tiger, was instrumental in transforming Indian team to Team India. He worked hard to build up a good team. And it paid off...Many professional players were born and many youngsters got a chance to play in the National team. Virendra Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh are some of them.
We have had good players. But always lacked good captain. After Kapil Dev Indian team really didn't have good captain. Though Azhar did well later he surrendered to bookies. And we still doubt him. Then Sourav was the immediate answer for everyone. Remember, Sourav took the responsibility of captain courageously when match fixing issue was at zenith and it was swallowing Indian cricket slowly.
But, Sourav with his latent leadership skills surpassed all difficulties. He showed his character and lead Indian team to delicious victories.
During Sourav's reign the Indian team scaled new heights.
1. From Indian team to Team India.
2. Discovered professional players like Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh etc.
3. Reached final in 2003 World Cup Cricket.
And more....
So, BCCI should honour Shri Sourav Ganguly at the right manner. Because he deserves it. And he is the only one cricketer whom Nation should salute. Yes, Sourav did much for Team India and Cricket...his critics even admit that sans ego!!
