An open letter to President of India : Mullaperiyar issue

Respected Her Excellency President of India,

I am K Govindan Nampoothiry, Journalist from Kochi, Kerala.

Open your eyes....Mrs. Pratibha Patil

As you are aware, Mullaperiyar Dam located in the outskirts of Idukki district in Kerala is in a dilapidated condition. As a journalist, i consider, it's my onus to notify you the seriousness of the situation. My intention behind this letter is - seeking your timely intervention as the First Citizen of India. I hope, realizing the situation you may take an effective action soon.

Stop your hide & seek play...Act wisely

For the last couple of weeks, Mullaperiyar hogs the limelight in regional as well as in national media. When 30 lakhs of people in Kerala is fighting to protect their life, in New Delhi, Honorable Prime Minister of India is discussing about FDI in retail sector and other low affair issues. And, so far, Prime Minister has not taken any measures to save the lives of people in Kerala. Why he is neglecting the demand of Kerala to construct a new dam? Wondering why this is happening in a democratic country like India? Do you think that people in Kerala don't have the freedom to live safely / happily?

Kerala is not at all against Tamil Nadu. We are ready to give as much as water the latter require. However, we cannot play with lives of 30 lakh Keralaites. What will be TN's stand if a disaster happens due to Mullaperiyar in their state?

Hectic parleys / conferences are not the ideal solution for this issue. Something should be done urgently in this regard.

As the President of India, you should be more active and must fight for citizens. I feel, since the situation in Mullaperiyar is alarming, you have the responsibility to intervene in this issue. As famous proverb says - prevention is better than cure. So, expecting your 'prompt' action.

Regards
